Beneath God's Wings

What is domestic violence?

Domestic violence is a pattern of abusive and coercive behaviors that adults or adolescents use against their intimate partners.  Domestic violence can take many forms, including physical abuse, psychological abuse, emotional abuse, verbal abuse, financial abuse, and isolation as well as sexual violence.
Domestic violence is a crime.

Is your relationship abusive?
Does your partner --
  • embarass you with bad names and put downs?
  • humiliate you with demeaning comments?
  • control what you do, who you see or talk to, or where you go?
  • stop you from seeing or talking to friends or family?
  • control all the money, take your money, make you ask for money, or refuse to give you money?
  • make all the decisions?
  • tell you you're a bad parent or threaten to take away or hurt your children?
  • act like abuse is no big deal, or its your fault, or even deny doing it?
  • threaten to destroy your property or harm your pets?
  • imtimidate you with guns, knives or other weapons?
  • shove you, slap you, or hit you?
  • strangle you, pull your hair, throw you?
  • harm your body in any way?
  • tell you God wants him to punish you?
  • force you to drop charges?
  • threaten to commit suicide?
  • force you to engage in sex against your will?
  • force you to engage in sex acts you do not like?
  • threaten to kill you?
